Sister Therese Jones, OP of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on February 16, 2010 at Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 7, 1927, Therese Marie was the daughter of Michael and Anna Anglim Jones. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on February 8, 1947 from the parish of St. Brendan’s in Brooklyn, NY and became known as Sister Anna Vincent, professing her first vows in 1948 and her final vows in 1953.
Sister Therese earned a BS in Education from Fordham University in NY.
During her professional life, Sister Therese was an elementary school teacher. She served in the Archdiocese of New York and in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Her active ministries included teaching and secretarial office work. She taught at St. Ignatius Day Nursery, NY (1948-49); St. Helena, Bronx, NY (1949-57); St. Mary Magdalen, Springfield Gardens, NY(1957-62); St. Teresa, Woodside, NY (1962-69)); St. James, Carmel, NY (1969-70); Mary Queen of Heaven, Brooklyn, NY (1970-73). From 1973-1980 she was a secretary at Bellevue Hospital in NY and from 1980-1990 she was an office associate at Health and Hospitals Corporation in NY. In 1990 she came to Dominican Convent and offered local community service. She was a resident of the St. Dominic Community.
Sister Therese will be remembered for her faithful commitment of sixty-three years to her religious profession. She made prayer an important part of her life and had great devotion to St. Therese Lisieux. She was blessed with a good life and was taken home quite suddenly.
