Sister Anne Vincetta, OP of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY.
Born in St. Louis, MO on September 29, 1912, Julia was the daughter of Martin and Anna Hughes. Julia entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 2, 1931 and became known as Sister Anne Vincetta, professing her first vows in 1933 and her final vows in 1935.
Sister Anne Vincetta earned a BS in Education from St. Louis University in 1951.
During her professional life, Sister Anne Vincetta taught in the Archdioceses of New York, St. Louis, Miami and in the diocese of Syracuse and Jefferson City, MO. She was a teacher at St. Mary, Fulton, NY (1933-34); St. Paul, Norwich, NY (1934-35); Epiphany, St. Louis, MO (1935-38); Little Flower, Richmond Hts., MO (1938-40 & 1950-52); St. Mark, St. Louis, MO (1940-45); Holy Rosary, Monroe City, MO (1945-50); St. Catherine of Siena, New York, NY (1952-53); St. James, St. Louis, MO (1953-57); Holy Redeemer, Webster Groves, MO (1957-65); Msgr. Scanlon HS, Bronx, NY (1965-76); Nativity, Miami, FL (1976-77). From 1977-84 she was secretarial assistant in the Archdiocesan School Office, DePorres School and Little Flower all in St. Louis. She retired in 1984 giving local community service until she took up residence in Siena Hall Infirmary in Sparkill.
We will remember Sister Anne Vincetta for the great influence she had on the lives of those she taught. She was a woman of great wisdom and spirit and we will miss her presence among us, especially her gracious smile and enjoyable sense of humor. We are grateful for her 77 years of faithful service as a Dominican sister. May she rest in the peace and love of the Lord. Amen.
